Background history on the Seattle World's Fair and other World's Fairs and Expositions held in Washington State. 2009 marked the Centennial of Seattle's FIRST World's Fair, The 1909 Alaska Yukon Pacific Exposition. Like in '62, the city branded itself as the gateway to Alaska's Gold Rush, Pacific Rim Trade and US expansion to the west.
